Basil Matthews hand made this charming model of a wise old owl wearing a pair of glasses and a mortar board; signed BASIL MATTHEWS on the base with the red Basil Matthews STUDIO, MADE IN ENGLAND label. The owl has had some his hat, 1 corner has been broken off, [see photo], no damage to the body; measures 69mm high, 62mm long.
Basil Matthews, sculptor of highly collectible small animals. Basil Matthews was a master in making and hand decorating small porcelain animal figurines - often with a touch of whimsy. He started producing his figurines in Staffordshire, England in 1946. Since his death in 1985, the figurines are becoming more collectible. Since all Basil Matthews figurines were hand decorated, no two are exactly alike. Basil Matthews wise 'ol owl figurine sporting a motar board hat and wearing glasses perched on his nose. Signed on bottom. Approx 2.5" tall x 2" wide
